The power of heroin.

On 1 December 2001, Walt passed out from an overdose of heroin.  He fell and got wedged between the bed and a nightstand, that cut off the circulation of blood to his left leg and right shoulder.  This caused his kidneys to shut down and poisoned his system with decaying muscle tissue.   The doctors determined that based on the amount of damage, circulation was cut by more than 10 hours and they didn't think that Walt would make it through the night.   He spent nearly two months in the hospital, followed by four months in physical therapy rehabilitation.  By June 2002, he was able to get around on his own without a wheelchair or a walker.

After all that Walt endured; a near death, the pain and agony from surgery and dialysis, the struggle to regain the use of his limbs, we cannot understand why he was driven to use heroin again.
